Michael J Fox “Always Looking Up” Hits Book Stores Today
Michael J Fox, who has battled Parkinson’s Disease for nearly two decades, opens up in a new book called “Always Looking Up”. Fox, who starred in the Back to the Future blockbusters, will speak to Oprah Winfrey today to discuss the book which is sure to be a best seller.
Fox believes there will be a cure for the debilitating telling The USA Today:
“The only question is when.” He says he was thrilled on March 9 when President Obama lifted the federal restrictions on funding stem cell research — the issue that turned Fox into an activist and campaigner during the 2006 midterm elections. He didn’t campaign for Obama last year. “I didn’t need to be part of that chorus when people could listen to Bruce Springsteen.”But in 2006, “no one could have spoken up for stem cell research and command the attention I did.” The bigger issue, he says, “is to get politics out of science.”Fox drew attacks from conservatives, including Rush Limbaugh, who suggested that Fox may have been exaggerating his physical symptoms.Fox says he never took the attacks personally. “Let’s face it: The whole episode, unpleasant though it may have been, was a gift in the same way that I have described Parkinson’s as a gift. You suffer the blow, but you capitalize on the opportunity left open in its wake.”
