PETA’s Next Big Target: Aretha Franklin

It looks like Aretha Franklin making an ass out herself has caught the attention of PETA. They aren’t happy with the “please call me queen or else I will spout my mouth off” soul singers wadrobe. They released a statement that said:

“Music lovers may think of you as a ‘queen,’ but to animal lovers, you are a court jester… Why not shed the old-fashioned look that adds pounds to your frame and detracts from your beautiful voice? Please consider donating your furs to the homeless as ‘queen of compassion,’ Mariah Carey, did. You’ll get a tax credit for the donation, and we at PETA will all sing your praises.”

I wonder how many animals it takes to cover her extra-plus sized frame.

Aretha Franklin’s Ego is as Large as a Mountain

We all know that Aretha Franklin is as big as a mountain. Now we know that her ego is as well.

Aretha Franklin threw two tantrums during the Grammy Award weekend. First, the “Queen of Soul”, would not let superstars Beyonce or Alicia Keys take the stage at a benefit concert because she was afraid that it would upstage her act.

The New York Post reported:

“Aretha refused to have Alicia Keys or Mary J. Blige perform,” fearing she’d be upstaged, our spy said. Instead, it was a “C-list lineup” of Corinne Bailey Rae, pianist Lang Lang, BeBe and CeCe Ledisi, and Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi.”

Franklin became even more grumpy when she heard Beyonce introduce Tina Turner as “The Queen”. Apparently, Franklin feels that she is the only one allowed to carry that moniker telling People Magazine:

“I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyoncé, however I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy. In addition to that, I thank the Grammys and the voting academy for my 20th Grammy and love to Beyoncé anyway.”

So poor Aretha’s feelings were hurt. She is a (really really) big girl, I think she should be able to handle it.

Judging by their performances on Grammy Sunday, Ms Turner still has it. Franklin’s performance probably had people across the country flipping to see what else they could watch on the tube. Long live the queen (Queen Tina Turner that is).
